Critical Essay on ââ¬ËFollowerââ¬â¢ Essay Example for Free
Critical Essay on Follower EssayA verse form which explores the problems of gro cowcatcher former(a) is the poem Follower by Seamus Heaney. This poem is near Heaneys childhood memories of his scram working on the farm ploughing the land. Heaney talks rattling highly of his fetch and creates the impression of a truly strong human beings who was an expert at what he done and a man who was his sons hero. It also talks about how Heaney used to come through his protactinium around as he worked and how he dreamed of growing up and ploughing like his dad. However, there is a twist at the sack of the poem and Heaney goes from talking about how he was an annoyance to his dad when he was younger but now his dad is the annoyance to him as he is now old.In the first stanza, Heaney talks about his beget and his work. He is talking very highly of his drive and says, The horses strained at his clicking tongue This quote shows how his father was a man who was extremely good at hi s work as it shows how his father could control numerous strong farm animals perfectly and with ease unsloped by clicking his tongue, a very hard thing to do using reasonable force never mind just by a wide gesture such of the click of his tongue. The view the reader gathers from this quote goes well with the envision of a strong, well-built man that we get when Heaney writes,His shoulders globed like a full sweep strungThese two quotes together give a very good impression of Heaneys dad. Together they give the impression that his dad was a very heroic figure to him and that he aspired to be like him. It gives the image of the perfect male, a strong, graceful man that was an expert at his profession and that was an idol to his son. However, these hero-like images of his father when he was younger are dismissed later on in the poem when Heaney writes about how his dad is no longer the big strong man that is an idol to younger males but the complete opposite, someone who is annoy ing and in the way of him rather than being someone who he looks up to, follows around and aspires to be. These incontrovertible quotes of the young strong man and the negative image created by the inhabit stanza go hand in hand to show the problems of growing older. The same sympathetic of fancy of the negative points of growing older are continued in to the split second stanza when Heaney continues to talk about how his dad was so practically of an idol to him and how his dad was someone to be looked up to and to aspire to be like when he was younger and in his prime in this stanza. This time Heaney says,An expert. He would set the wingThis is a very powerful tune. The short sentence of only two words to start off the stanza is very effective as it gives the impression that his father wasnt only very good at his job but he was an expert, he was the best. This is one time again showing how his father was so much of an idol to him and that he was a very respectable stereotypi cal perfect father when he was younger as it shows how good his father was at his job. The second part of the line shows that his father knew exactly what he was doing and gives us the impression that his father took his job very seriously and that he was very precise and grueling when doing anything in his job such as setting the wing. The idea of his dad being so good at his job and being able to do it with ease is continued when Heaney writes,The sod rolled over without breaking. At the headrig, with a single pluckThe quotes without breaking and with a single pluck reinforce the idea that his dad was an expert at his job as they show that he could do hard work with ease and that he knew exactly what he was doing and that he could do it perfectly if he could turn soil without it even breaking and control his animals with a single pluck. Once again it is the negative image of his father given in the last stanza as he is older that shows the negative effects of growing older as it is so different from the image you gather from the first two stanzas alone about how good his father was at his job and how strong his father was and how much of an idol his father was to him when he was younger. The image of his father being so strong and good at his job in his youth is continued throughout the next three stanzas. The idea of him being an expert and being someone to look up to who was strong and almost perfect is continued through the continued use of quotes such as,the egest teamThis shows that the work was not easy. If the team of strong farm horses that where doing the job were sweating and tired you could only imagine how much sweat and effort Heaneys father would have to put in to the work. It then continues to talk about his expertise in the job as it says things such as,Narrowed and angled at the ground,Mapping the furrow exactly. The first line shows how his father took his work very seriously and that he was very precise in what he done and that he made sur e he done it to a good standard therefore he had to concentrate greatly on what he was doing. The second line also reinstates the fact that he was an expert at his work as it shows how he mapped the furrow in his head and made sure it was exact once again showing that he took it very seriously and had pride in his work. Heaney then goes on to write,Sometimes he rode me on his backThis gives the impression that his father was the ultimate as he has talked about how hard his work was when he wrote about the sweating team and he was talked about how much effort and ducking that he had to put in to his work but he says how he still even managed to carry his little son on his back epoch he did all of this. Something that would make the work even more harder and longer and would make it harder to concentrate but he still did it. However, all these quotes can be compared to the last three or so lines that show the real problems of growing older. Althought he had listed all of these posit ive things and even said how he literally followed in his fathers footsteps all day, he finishes of the poem by saying,But todayIt is my father who keeps stumblingBehind me, and will not go away. This really highlights the problem of growing older as it shows how people can just disregard someone when they get old regardless of what they thought of them when they were younger. Although Heaney had idolised his dad when he was young and treasured to be exactly like him and used to stumble behind his father and annoy him, now that it is Heaney in the position of having his father stumbling behind him and relying on him, Heaney doesnt even want to slam him. This is actually quite a sad ending to the poem as it really does highlight the problems of growing older as it shows how it seems that once you are older and start relying on those younger than you who once relied in you they dont want to know you.So, as you can see, the author, Seamus Heaney has been very successful at exploring t he problems of growing older in his poem Follower. Heaney does this by writing the vast majority of the poem about positive points about his dad when he was younger making him out to be a hero but then introducing a cruel twist in the last stanza about how even though he once idolised his dad and relied on him now that his dad relies on Heaney, he doesnt want to know him.

To the Lighthouse Essay Example for Free
To the Lighthouse EssayStyle for the author as well as for the painter is a point not of technique, but of vision, says French writer Marcel Proust in his book Le Temps Retrouve. Proust belongs to the league of early 20th century writers who rebelled against the structures of Classicism on prose by employing revolutionary styles in the narrative. Critics of Virginia Woolf trace her make to Proust, among other figures who sh are her distinct conception of reality and experience albeit the fact that there was no direct correspondence between the two writers. Virginia Woolf is a very individualistic and visionary writer (Friedman, 1955). The apparent similarity between her theory of reality and experience and that of the popular claims of some of her contemporaries can only be accounted for by the fact that Woolf draws much from the zeitgeist. The idea of stream of consciousness, for instance, is not unique to her as Bergson, who authored durational flux, proposes the same idea that time is a continuous flux which is the theoretical basis for stream of consciousness (Friedman, 1955). Nonetheless, her work remained distinctly hers specifically in terms of her style. It is because for Woolf the creation and fulfillment of a vision rather than a practice of technique matters most. Her bearing as a writer naturally followed her vision, her philosophy on life, reality and truth. In her body of work, she demonstrated what Proust claims to be the headspring of style. A very critical essayist, Woolf was very vocal about her vision. In her essay, Modern Fiction, published in 1925, she voices out her opinion on the issue of otherworldliness versus materialism by critiquing her contemporary English authors H. G. Wells, Arnold Bennett and John Galsworthy. She coined the label Materialists from their apparent lack of vision, their concern for trivial, temporal things, which to her escapes Life. She regarded their craft with respect but it was the objective to which th eir efforts were tell that she strongly opposed. She emphasizes the capturing of the spirit (or, as she put it, life or truth or reality, whatever we call it) to be the essence of art. The absence thereof incites the question whether that piece of literature is worthwhile and enduring.Woolf believes the preoccupation with trivialities is a manifest submission to the tyranny of the classics, the tradition and the canon. This would mean stagnation and death. Woolf puts it better when she writes Movement and change are the essence of our being. Rigidity is death, conformity is death (Woolf, The Common Reader). Described as essentially a lyrical smart, To the Lighthouse reflects the totality of Woolfs vision of capturing the evanescence of life into prose (Mayoux 214).Critics of the novel refer to its non-prose qualities, i. e. its deviation from the conventions of unity of time, characterization and linear plot development, to describe novel which has a very thin plot. Williams (204) writes that the novel is more akin to poetry than prose because it attempts to make the moment something permanent. According to him, this is a province of poets, musicians and painters and not of novelists (Williams 204).Interestingly, one of the characters in the novel, Lily Briscoe, is an actual painter and her character gives insight into the full treatment of the novel. The external plot of the novel is unusually thin for its length. Bennett aptly constructs the summary a group of people plan to sail in a venial boat to a lighthouse. At the end some of them reach the lighthouse in a small boat(200). The novel is divided in terzetto chapters. The first chapter, The Window, begins in summer at a vacation house by the sea, owned by Mr. and Mrs.Ramsay.On that occasion, their family along with a few friends collect in the house for a party prepared by Mrs. Ramsay. Mrs. Ramsays son insists on going to the lighthouse, but Mr. Ramsay disappoints him by announcing that the weather would not get them. The rest of chapter describes the dinner interspersed with the thoughts of each character. The second chapter, Time Passes, is a description of the house and the memory imprinted in it after the characters introduced in the first chapter went their separate ways. The chapter is ingenuous of character action except for the incidental visitation of the house cleaners. In the second chapter, Mrs. Ramsays death is announced. The third chapter, The Lighthouse, happens years after the first chapter. Mr. Ramsay, together with his children and two of their guests, including Lily Briscoe, revisits the summer house. Lily contemplates the completion of her painting as Mr. Ramsay leads his children on a boat ride to the lighthouse. The novel ends as Lily completes her work.

Electrical Properties Quantum Transport in Nanowire Device
Electrical Properties Quantum Transport in Nanowire DeviceDavid S. MurdochNanowires be quasi one-dimensional rod-like nanostructures with diameters in the order of nanometres (10-9m) and have seemingly unlimited length and a great degree of versatility. Nanowires form as monowatch glasss in a well defined crystal geometric direction. Nanowire geometry allows for easy cont playacting of the wires from 2 sides. Attention is devoted to geometry of nanowires because this is the feature that allows for easy control of electronic properties of nanowires.1 Growth orientation (e.g. 100), the faceting arrangement (e.g. 100) and the surface structure (Si(100)) atomic number 18 generally outlined in nanowire investigations and ar a generally accepted notation to depict nanowires. A nanowire is thin and diameter is in order of order far smaller than length of nanowire. As diameters gets larger, quantum effects become less significant against bulk substantial properties.Nanowires have the rmoelectric properties, specifically that they have heights thermal stability and low thermal conductivity. Quasi one dimensional Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) and nanowires be likely composite reals for future electronic devices.1 Nanowires electrical properties are easier to control than CNTS, therefore are an attractive alternative to CNTs and naturally passivated when semiconducting.1Under scrutiny, experimentally grown nanowires always have passivated facets but further study of unpassivated (pristine) nanowires has plant fundamental mechanisms at an atomic-scale. One of which being that passivation is necessary to obtain nanowires with those controllable electrical properties.1Semiconductor nanowires can form from materials such asSilicon, Si atomic number 49 Arsenide, InAsGermanium, GeIndium Phosphide, InPGallium Nitride, GaNZinc Oxide, ZnOCadmium Sulphide, CdSNanowires can also be made from metallic materials and oxidised to make insulators but semiconducting filmy nanowires are ultimately more useful in devices. At the atomic-scale, although impurities are useful sometimes, small variations can cause serious unwanted alterations to electronic structure. 1 semiconductive nanowires are often fabricated via growth mechanisms or synthesised by electrochemical etching. These processes are often done in an aqueous solution with HF acid. The just about common method of nanowire growth is Vapour-Liquid-Solid (VLS) mechanism. VLS is a bottom-up process that starts with the dissolution of gaseous semiconducting materials with colloids of a metal throttle, generally gold or smooth 2. The one-dimensional growth is evoked and dictated by the colloids. Once the colloids are supersaturated with semiconducting material, crystalline nanowire growth give start to occur at a boundary between solid substrate and liquidised material. This particular description was the growth of silicon nanowires. One example of EE is the use Ag catalyst on wafer-scale Si to fabricate a nanowire array. Ag+ ions are decrease in the solution after holes are inserted into the valence band of Si substrate. The reduced Ag nanoparticles dictate the extent of the etching and oxidation processes. Vertically aligned nanowires result from this synthesis.3After both methods of fabrication, nanowires remained anchored to substrates and are similarly dependent upon length of diameter for thermoelectric properties. However, wires from EE have much rougher surfaces than that of VLS.Si nanowires yielded from EE have much rougher surfaces than typical Si nanowires grown via VLS and have less thermal conductance.3A heterostructures are the junctions between twain different crystalline semiconductor materials essentially two different nanowire materials formed together to make one nanowire with unique properties. Heterostructures are comm provided grown via VLS.2 These heterostructures allow nanowires to have multitude of properties. What is a semiconductor and how does it work. By strict definition, a semiconductor has a conductivity between 105 and 10-5-1m-1. This is in contrast with insulators that have conductivity of approximately 10-24-1m-1 and metals that typically have 107 to 108-1m-1. On the face of them, these numerical values are rather stand foringless but they do show that a semiconductor is burst from the other two, a true genuine third category of material.4How a semiconductor conducts is best described by a conduction and valence band. The conduction band rests above the valence band. The conduction band contains excited electrons and the valence band contains holes. In an insulator the two bands are a vast distance away from each other. In a semiconductor the two bands are much closer together, almost touching. If a bandgap is small enough, thermal vibrations may provide enough naught for some electrons to excite from the valence band to the conduction band. In a metal the two bands overlap, leading to a low resistivity in metals.4 The d iagram below depicts what the above description. An intrinsic semiconductor has a completely filled valence band, electron and hole populations are always equal. 4 An extrinsic semiconductor is doped. Midway between the two bands lies the Fermi energy. Below the Fermi energy. At absolute zero, no electrons we be able to excite past the Fermi energy.12 In n-type and p-type semiconductors, the Fermi energy is adjusted to be closer to valence or conduction band.12 Between the two bandgaps there is a sea of electron density.A transistor is a semiconducting electronic switch and are commonly found embedded in integrated circuits. Down-scaling of the gate length over the years has technological devices reduce in size has caused field-effect devices to having significantly less electrostatic control of a way of conductance more capable device have been developed such as FINFETs, Trigate transistors and ultimately gate-all-around devices (GAA).4Nanowire devices can come in all shapes, not s izes. Examples of nanowire devices are Field-Effect Transistors (FETS), LEDs, Tunnelling diodes, basal logic gates, lasers and biochemical sensors.4There are a number of different FETs but Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistors (MOSFETs) might be the most interesting or relevant in near-future technologies and are examples of GAAs. MOSFETs are extrinsic semiconductors where the doped material has been oxidised for some insulating properties. If a metallic gate anode were deposited you have the foundation of an electrical switch. crystalline Carrier level off density can be changed at the Fermi energy. If the semiconductor were p-type (i.e. abundance of holes in valence band) and a positive voltage is applied to the circuit hence the electrostatic energy of the holes increases. Although holes are pushed away from the anode, every attracted electrons do not compensate for the decrease in positive strike. The change by reversal effect is reduced if charge can be stick ind at the interface between the insulating barrier and the Si since the potential of the silicon will be less than that of the applied gate.4When voltage is increase beyond a certain point electron concentration at the surface of the Si will exceed the hole concentration. This creates the on/off switching effect. This gate voltage is large enough so that the bottom of the valence band moves down. The switching effect does not work with a metallic material because the valence band would be too high still and a Fermi energy could still carry current. The semiconductor band gap controls on/off electron currents.4Are nanowire MOSFETs higher-up? Smaller semiconductor gates allows speeds up operation from shorter distances, lower areas of capacitances and Larger fields but it is risky to store charge in a transistor so small and new quantum effects come into play at a nanowire-scale. One of the capabilities of these new technologies is to progress to potentials which can confine elect rons to the same scale as their Fermi wavelength. Nanowire MOSFETs can also be used in high frequency circuits. In negatron microscopy high energy electrons are fired at an object and reflected electrons are collected and computed into an image. electron microscopy generally has greater magnifying power than optical microscopes. There are two main electron microscopes and they are Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). SEM uses secondary electron to help generate an image that gives the viewer an whimsy of 3D while TEM fires at thinner objects at produces a 2D image but while ultimately be more useful for imaginativeness nanowires.7Larger batteries potential differences require more conductive metals. In recent years Lithium has grown popular as a cathode. Semiconducting Si could be an attractive anode for Li cathode batteries as both metals become more ubiquitous. Although Si has low discharge potential and charge subject matter 10x higher than vivacious graphite anodes and even more so than oxide and nitride materials, Si anodes in bulk form have limited use because silicons volume is drastically altered during beginning and insertion of Li. Resulting in capacity fading and pulverisation after recharging cycles. This is depicted in the diagram below. 8Anodes made of Si films have a stable capacity over many cycles but are not viable as a battery because they run off away over time. Nanowire are a superior alternative to bulk materials because of a piezoelectric effect Crystals which acquire a charge when compressed, twisted or distorted are said to be piezoelectric. This provides a convenient transducer effect between electrical and mechanical oscillations.9 Each Si nanowire is grown and electrically connected to a metallic substrate surface indeed all nanowires contribute to the battery capacity.During Fossil fuel combustion 15 TW of heat is lost to the environment. Thermoelectric modules could potentially conve rt part of the heat waste to electricity.3 As of 2008, Bi2Te3 in its bulk form was the most commonly used material for thermoelectric devices. However, it is difficult to scale bulk Bi2Te3 to large-scale energy variety in power plants but fabricating synthetic nanostructures of Bi2Te3 for this purpose is even more difficult and expensive. Thus, Bi2Te3 is replaced with increasingly ubiquitous Si.3Ubiquitous Si, abundance with a low-cost and high-yield products convey to economies of scale. Si also has advantages in thermoelectric applications. Critical spacings below 300nm in Si would reduce thermal conductivity since Si has larger differences in mean free path lengths between phonons (300nm) and electrons (110nm) at room temperature.3InAs-based semiconductor nanowires can already provide a convenient basis for the development of more colonial hybrid nanostructures and can contact Schottky barrier-free with metals.6The InAs superconducting nanowires are fabricated via catalytic pr ocess based on the VLS mechanism.6 InAs nanowires can be grown epitaxially. Epitaxial growth means the deposited material continues to grow on the same crystalline lattice as its substrate.2A superconductor is material with with no resistance and generally operates at a lower temperature. within semiconductors, there are electron pairs, separated by vast distance in comparison to the lattice spacing, are coupled. These so-called Cooper pairs can picture boson characteristics and condense to a ground state since their attraction produces a small pair binding energy similar to the Fermi energy level.10A supercurrent generates no waste heat or any other form of waste. The supercurrent can be switched on or off by the electron density acting like a transistor as described earlier. Nanowires acquire superconducting properties because of the proximity effect, a phenomenon that can occur as Cooper pairs of electrons from a superconductor flow into a normal conductor at a junction. Nanowi res arent inherently superconducting or easy to make superconducting.6 The proximity effect manifests itself through the appearance of a supercurrent, which can be viewed as a consequence of the diffusion of Cooper pairs throughout the entire length of the nanowire section between the two superconducting electrodes.6 the proximity affect can only happen if the boundary between Superconductor and semiconductor allows electrons to move freely. Cooper pair tunnelling is an explanation of Cooper pairs where they are able to interact through quantum tunnelling. At a junction between two superconductors and a more resistive material i.e. S-N-S junction. Two Cooper pairs across from each other in two separate semiconductors, can feel an attraction and readily flow into the normal conductor dividing them. S-N-S junctions will also feel a Josephson effect. Cooper pair could be created in the superconductor electrons in the Fermi energy being reflected at the S-N boundary.6 This could be beca use of tunnelling effects. But what of Tunable supercurrent? How can a hybrid superconductor-semiconductor device work to observe quantum phenomena? Josephson behaviour occurs at critical currents. The nanowires allows the critical current to be controlled by voltage at a gate, Vg. If this voltage is negative then electron density is reduced and nanowires commit as the weak links between tunable superconductors.6 With the use of certain geometries, there is the possibility of controlling individual nanowires on the same IC.Majorana fermions are particles that are their own antiparticle.13 Not much is still known about Majorama pairs, not all the theory has been made to explain them and their properties yet. They are also examples of non-Abelian anyons.14 In the neck of the woods of a Zeeman field, semiconducting nanowires require strong spin-orbit to induce majorana pairing in between electron states. This proximity effect induces a topological superconductor. Majoranas can be dete cted by Tunnelling Spectroscopy. A superpostion of Majorana particles states will always be zero energy because the particle and antiparticle have opposite energy.14 Said zero energy state can be found in a normal conductor acting as a junction.11How to summarise this dissertation? The task have was to research and review electrical properties and quantum transport in nanowire devices. This task down into an explanation of base nanowires, specifically semiconducting nanowires. Then, general devices such as transistors, batteries and thermoelectrics were inform on and how certain applications have taken advantage of nanowires in respective devices. Then analyse of quantum effects in Cooper Pairs in superconductors and Majorama fermions. Technology is go at an exponential pace. The smaller components can be the more attractive they to companies who manufacture and sell consumer products. The smaller a transistor is the more you can gibe on an integrated circuit leading to smaller more powerful products. Majorama fermions and Cooper pair tunnelling probably wont be used in any consumer applications in the near future but nanowire semiconductors in junctions placed between superconductors show means of electrically measuring quantum tunnelling. In the near future investigations of these particles will enhance fabrication and measuring techniques and eventually manipulate and control Majorana qubits. They are examples of non-Abelian anyons14, quantum state after partilce exchange making them ideal for use in topological quantum computing.13ReferencesR. Fayols 4 Functions of Management
Fayols 4 Functions of ManagementHenri Fayol (1841-1925), praised as father of modern administrative management, focused on oecumenic and attitudes theories of managers practice. Fayol was the first to discover the specific managerial functions of planning, organizing, commanding, coordinating and controlling (Davidson et al, 2009 p.42). However, it has comprised of only four functions nowadays (planning, coordinating, leading and controlling). These functions have become the solid foundation and middle management process, playing important roles in diverse organisations. Accordingly, this essay will further elaborates the Fayols functions and convince of its great influence within the contemporary management practices. However, errors and biases conclusion making such as overconfidence and sink personifys competency cause corporate crisis and scandal (Robbins et al, 2009 p.232). Port Klang Free Zone chuck (PKFZ) in Malaysia, has bring on a failure planning. Advisory firm Pricewa terhousecoopers (2009 p.11) has revealed PKFZ project real(a) cost had rose up from RM1,957 billion, predict to reach RM12,453 billion accumulative deficits in over time. Report further indicated that failure planning included weak governance and project management, lands purchased exceed market value, low project actual occupancy and so on. It is app bent that the management team are holding unrealistically positive view, tend to obtain reward and to avoid immediate costs. PKFZ project also failure to adjust adequately for subsequent information. Thereby, decision-makers ought to not be heuristics thus simplify.Fayols coordinating function still emphasises in current management practice. organize linking and allocating the organisational activities and resources to ensure efforts are tellingly (Davidson et al, 2009 p.280). Coordinating approaches consist of job specialisation, departmentalisation, allocating authority and also organising activities. These purposes are to maximisi ng performance practices, and establish sustainable competitive advantages. For this modeling, Malaysia condition Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad has a great effort on coordinated civil servants. He initiated civil service reform in his governance time, suggested figure shift needed from the civil servants in their attitude and approach towards their duties. Hereby in Mahathir theory, stated that civil service should more customers focused, responsive, results and performance oriented, accountable and innovative, with the subject and capability of providing quality services (Ho and Chin, 2001 p.22). As a result, reform has increased the efficiency and effectiveness in the civil service administration and management.Besides, Malaysia logical argumentlines (MAS) was another example to demonstrate the important of coordinating. Reformation MAS adopt to join global air passage alliance to cut short their deficit flight lines and feed to alliance airline (Sia, 2007). Simulta neously, collaborate airlines would also allocate the regional flights to MAS. Therefore, both have equal advantages, despite MAS flights reduced but made more money.Leading is another section of Fayols function. Organisational manager should have leadership skills to lead employee. Robbins (2009 p.577) stated that a good leader should have clear goals, relevant skills, mutual trust and support, negotiating skills and unified commitment. Furthermore, effective communication increase productivity and avoid distrust between employees. As Mahathir (2004 p.118) outlined that explanations is one of the important jobs of a leader, because leader (manager) have to sell the paper to people (subordinates). Thereby, good communication should a leader have. However, Milne and Mauzy (1999 p.3) argued that the most important leadership traits are not discernible by looking at the leader alone but by looking at interactive leader-follower relations. It makes clear that leader should also be sen sitive to what followers think. For instance, Asia leading low-cost carrier, Air Asia, has an extraordinary leading style. The management prefers casual and team-work approach, with less authority symbolises and allows employees to share opinion (AFP, 2004). The crew members clean the plane without regard for rank, and the top manager universal get down operations with subordinates. CEO Tony Fernandes has further explained this is a way to motivate his staff (Kang, 2003).The forth Fayols functions are controlling. Controlling means restricting organisational activities to same trained element of performance remain within acceptable limits (Davidson et al, 2009 p.318). Controlling is an indicator and it helps to ensure the process of implementing goal was in right direction, with comparing and evaluating its performance. In reality, due to goal perform is an ongoing process, contingency are often surround and occur during process, therefore, controlling provide the critical link ba ck to planning. wholesome controlling will make productivity efficiency and achieve effectiveness goal.Air Asia as a low-cost airline has to constant looking of their cost and expenses. For example, Air Asia decides buying mavin type aircraft, which is Airbus A320. CEO Tony Fernandes (2007) make clear that Airbus A320 is cost economics than others aircraft, superior reliability and fuel efficient. Due to this, keeping single aircraft type reduces maintenance fees and staff training expenses. It is apparent that Air Asia has made effective control through cost-efficient.On the other hand, organisation without control managing ignoring of the target and what future happens to buzz off, lastly cause failure management. Port Klang Free Zone project (PKFZ) as stated above, was also result in weak finance controlling. The report (2009 p.40) has illustrated PKFZ purchased land with exceeds market value, and twice to accept higher interest rates loan than originally contracted without re ason, despite management team discover financial statement facing deficit. In sum, overwhelming evidences make clear that Fayols functions involve great influence to contemporary organisational management practice. Planning, coordinating, leading and controlling are incurred reciprocal condition, interdependent and interaction. Managers have to engage in different activities and different management process well simultaneously. Without Fayols functions nowadays, Malaysia Airlines might be termination, dissolution or take over by others. Also, entirely low-cost airlines organisations even many low-cost industries cannot survive. PKFZ project is not without planning, but a weakness planning and controlling. If plans and controls in satisfactory, it might be a flourish regional trade, distribution and procurement centres. Hence, it could therefore be concluded with practice well of Fayols functions, although goal cannot assure be supremacy but can minimise the challenges and drawbacks among the approach.

Negative Externality Pakistans speed of light TaxTable of Contents (Jump to) interpolationAnswer 1Answer 2Answer 3ConclusionReferencesIntroductionThe assignment is ascendantd on the concept of detrimental externalities. A ban externality normally is a monetary value that is incurred to the ternionsome party as a result of an economic trans execute. The assignment is based on the case teach of Pakistans policy for implementing the degree centigrade impose. This way the government of Pakistan has taken a convinced(p) step towards dealing with the banish externality pollution and kilobyte menage bungle liberation. Later the assignment covers the other(a) steps that must be imageed by the Pakistan government to deal with the problem ad abase the impact of negative externalities.Answer 1Negative Externalities It throne be defined as the carry out of products on consumers that has the negative impact on the third party. Negative externalities ar mainly concerned with the environmental movements of producing and consuming a product (Laffont, 2008). The main examples of negative externalities be air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution, systematic venture etc.A negative externality normally is a toll that is incurred to the third party as a result of an economic transaction. In this eccentric of economic transaction, consumer and producer atomic number 18 the first and second party, and the third party is comprised of governing body, individual, resource or property possessor that get in instantaneously affected receivable to that transaction (Caplan, 2008). The negative externality is in addition known as external cost in economics. Some common negative externalities areThe smokers ignore the detail of the harmful impact of the overtakeive smoking for the non smokers around them.Air pollution caused by the traffic impacts the lungs of the people who are not even travelling on the roadThe food wastage(Source Buchanan, James, Ex ternality.Economical)Negative externalities normally lead in the situations where property ownership of the assets and resources are not properly allocated and are uncertain. For instance, on that point is no owner of the oceans or the forests, so any(prenominal)body can pollute them without any fear of getting sued by the owner. External cost like the cost of pollution makes the marginal cordial cost curve mush higher than the marginal surreptitious cost.(Source Economicsonline.co.uk)Government Intervention to correct the negative ExternalitiesThe environmental concerns are the intimately chief(prenominal) dispute in front of government now days. They are taking up many steps to deal with the negative externalities and eradicate its harmful effects from the third party. The some common among them are theEnvironmental revenue enhancement revenueThis is the well-nigh common approach of adjusting the negative externalities. This is excessively referred to as the making o f polluters day. This tax increases the private tax of tune or consumption with the aim of simplification the overall demand for the product that is ca apply the negative externality. For instance money collected from the over-crowding charge of a vehicle that is entering a busy road. The environmental taxes include the landfill tax, the congestion charges, vehicle excise duty and plastic bag tax.Problems with environmental taxes Pollution tax has the succeeding(a) related problemsAssignment of the right take aim of taxationConsumer welfare effectsInvestment and employment consequences. blow TaxCarbon tax refers to the tax that is imposed on the cans snow copy content (Holler, 1991). All the hydro cytosine fuel contains the carbon content in it like fossil oil, natural gas and coal. They disoblige the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere when they are burnt. Carbon taxes are formed to reduce the green house effects of gas procession through cost effective means (Gupta, 2007) . . Carbon taxes are very regressive and impact the lower income group largely. The impact of carbon taxes can be addressed using the tax revenue for the lower income groups. The features of carbon tax areThis is a submit tax on the content of carbon in fossil fuel.It is considered as the most economical and efficient means for conveying the price signals that are crucial for reducing the carbon contentIt can be structured for salving the impact of the additional cost by distributing to the homes.Carbon tax is supported by economists, commonplace officials, environmental drawing cards and citizens. The carbon tax policies of government are substantial for taking the global effort to fight the climatic deepens. Pricing carbon is a positive step towards it.The government may interfere through the use of laws and enactments. For example, theHealth and Safety at Work Actcovers all public and private sector businesses. Local Councils can take action against noisy, unruly neighbors a nd can pass by-laws preventing the public consumption of alcohol.Answer 2Case Study overviewPakistan has recently considered burdensome the carbon emission from the big fossil fuel assiduity and reduces its negative impact on the populaces climate. This was declared in the national climate transplant dodge. They emphasize on the use of re impudentable resources. The government exit consider introducing carbon tax on the use of environmentally detrimental power generation from fossil fuels, said the plan, launched at an event in Islamabad. (Reuters taper Carbon)The Pakistan government in their policy announced the tax on carbon at the rate of Pakistani Rupee 25 per ton. It started from 1 July 2012 with the objective of ever- changing the policy later to market based emission trading scheme (Gillard, 2010). Pakistani deliverance suffered slow-down due to the climatic trades. clime transmute refers to situation that reflects the significant salmagundis in the patters on weather conditions over the particular time period. Climate changes are caused by various factors such as solar radiation variations, biotic process and volcanic eruptions. The human activities are in addition responsible for the severe climatic changes that reserve lead to global warming (Edward Miller, 2001). These severe climatic changes beget the adverse impact on the overall oscillation of earths process. Evidence for recording the climate changes has been taken from various resources that were used to reconstruct the chivalric climates. The changes have affected the entire world and Pakistan has faced the significant economic impacts due to this. It has affected the infrastructure, coastal communities, and agriculture and water security in Pakistan.Carbon taxes are important for reducing the negative effects of carbon emission. Carbon taxes are formed to reduce the green house effects of gas emission through cost effective means . Carbon taxes are very regressive and imp act the lower income group largely. The impact of carbon taxes can be addressed using the tax revenue for the lower income groups. These taxes provide the fillips for the firms that adopt the environment friendly approach for production process. These are in any case important for rhytidoplasty the money required for taking the initiatives to save environment. The impacts of carbon tax on the economy of Pakistan are as followsMacro economics effects Pakistan economy promotes the simplification in usage of carbon related verve resources for the attention purpose and switch towards the renewable efficacy resources. Carbon tax is the cost to the producers that use the carbon efficient energy resources. So in order to reduce the cost and increase the profit, it is important for them to shift towards the other renewable resources of energy. Carbon tax is important for reducing the tax as well as the negative impacts on the environment.(Source Self Study)The left graphs clearly sta tes that the tax pull up stakes increase the cost of production and decrease the quantity of fuel energy. The go forth also lead to higher labour cost and also it will lead to increase in fuel prices. The right graph on the contrary shows the benefit of using the renewable resource of energy and increase in production direct. So it is seen that carbon tax will impact the business negatively, but at the same time supercharge them to use the renewable resources of energy that will have the long term positive impact on environment and business.Effects on employment The carbon tax has the direct negative impact on the employment because it will lead to additional burden on the production cost. The trade sector will see the shift towards the non trading sector due to this.Effects on households The household will experience the change in cost of the general commodities as the industries will include the cost of carbon tax in intact cost of production. This will lead to negative impa ct and the household income will be reduced. draw ActionThe government replaces the carbon tax with the direct action plan. The direct action plan includes the incentive program for the industries that reduce the carbon emission rate significantly (Preston, 2006). The key points of the policy areTarget of 55 reduction in carbon emission rateScrapping the carbon tax and associated taxesCreation of green army for conducting the environment conservation work. The government released the white makeup that has the details around the policy and the working of fund for emission reduction. The labor as well as the coalition supported this policy over the carbon tax. Contrary to the carbon taxes the policy emphasizes on gaining the incentives by reducing the carbon emission in environment. Policy also has the provision for compensation payment to tax payers for reducing the increase in prices. It directs the business to work towards the emission reducing projects.Pakistan is the largest con tributor towards the green house gas emissions, so this policy will religious service the entire worlds by reducing the carbon emission without imposing any impact on the cost of production. The main feature of the direct action policy is creation of emission reduction fund, which will be $3 billion for four years. The fund will ask the industries to fill the tenders for the emission reduction projects. This will initiate the reverse auction and the industries will compete for reducing the emission rate to win the incentive from the government. The auctions will be held quarterly. The government is sure most the positive outcomes of the policy in terms of reduction in carbon emission.(Source Self Study)The direct policy has the positive impact on the Pakistan economy. Pakistan genuinely has the talent of achieving more than the 5% target. Pakistan will win the emission reduction project by 2020 in more efficient way. It will contribute towards the global action for addressing th e climate change. By reducing the emission amount the economic growth of the Pakistan is expected to be doubled in next few years. It will directly impact the long term projection of the economic growth. Since it has no cost habituated to it, it will be beneficial for the business as well as the house hold income. Instead the policy rules of taking the advantage of incentive will direct the business house to reduce the carbon emission without any impact on the cost of production. It is estimated that Pakistan economy will grow by 17% with this project.(SourceClimate Change Authority, 2013)The level of the price attached to carbon with incentive plan will reduce the economic cost. in that respect will be no cost passed to the customers in the form of goods and operate. It will also define the direct income transfer from Pakistan for buying the additional emission from the overseas. This will also reduce the indirect cost. This will have the positive trade effect.Carbon Tax Vs Dir ect ActionCarbon tax policy as well as the direct action policy aims towards the reduction of the carbon emission in the environment. The base is same but the approach is totally contradictory. The direct action is better than the carbon tax policy because of the below mentioned factsCarbon tax has the cost attached to it which will in return increase the cost of production whereas the direct action has the incentive policy which encourages the industries to reduce the amount of carbon emission without any effect.Carbon tax will lead to reduction in employment opportunity due to increased labor cost whereas this will not occur in the case of direct action policy. The direct action policy has the better targets and objectives as compared to carbon taxing. The carbon tax will reduce the household income due to the increased prices of commodity whereas the direct action plan will not have the negative impact on the household income.Carbon taxing policy will lead to increase in fuel price s and the actual efficiency will be reduced whereas the direct action plan will increase the efficiency of the industry and the whole tone of production. The direct action policy has the clear targets in terms of reduction of carbon emission whereas it is missing in the carbon tax policy. For dealing with the negative externalities, the Government of Pakistan has taken a positive step in the form of Carbon tax. This will reduce the green house gas emission and promote the use of renewable resources. This was not only Pakistan but the climate of entire world will get the positive results. Pakistan is taking the considerable steps to reduce the carbon emission in the environment. This is because of the fact that the economy of Pakistan has suffered due to the large amount of green house gas emission. The government introduced the carbon tax and direct action policy for the reduction of carbon emission. The carbon tax policy does not get the enough victory and the direct action plan re placed it successfully. By the year 2020 Pakistan is aiming at significant control over the carbon emission in the environment.Answer 3The carbon tax is very unique in genius but it is quite effective for reducing the impact of negative externalities. The main purpose of carbon tax is to reduce the carbon dioxide emission and with this save the severe climatic changes. but this is noted that only the carbon tax cannot save the climatic change and reduce the impact of negative externalities. The Pakistan government should also make other policies to reduce the impact of carbon emission in the environment. For this purpose they must make the policies and regulation of reducing the coal usage in industry as it causes lots of pollution and also it is a non renewable resource of energy. The government should compulsorily regulate the use of renewable resources of energy that are natural and reduces the emission of green house gases.Carbon tax policy is quite cost effective for the Paki stan economy and it is quite easy to switch from the pollution taxes to direct subsidies and promotes the cleaner and greener production technologies. However the impact of these taxes totally depends on how this money is being used for the reducing the impact of negative externalities (Scott, 2005). They must be balanced by decreasing the amount of other taxes by the method of revenue recycling. The green taxes can actually help the overall economy of Pakistan provided it is used in the right direction and the taxes are imposed religiously to achieve the main objective behind them. In the nutshell, it can be said that imposing the carbon tax is a very progressive step of the Pakistan government. However along with this they should also consider the following for dealing with the negative externalities (Bonnieux, 2002)Preserving the tropical rain forests in PakistanLimiting the public access to the farm land for their recreational purposesPreservation of wet land pursual the traditi onal ways of farm buildingImplementing the price-based instruments alter the prices of goods and services to reflect their relative impact.Providing the grants to farmers under the Control of Farmyard Pollution SchemeConclusionTo conclude, negative externality is a character of economic transaction, consumer and producer are the first and second party, and the third party is comprised of organization, individual, resource or property owner that get indirectly affected due to that transaction. Pakistan Government has decided to impose the carbon tax for dealing with the situation of extreme pollution and green house gas emission through their fossil fuel industry. The level of the price attached to carbon with incentive plan will reduce the economic cost. There will be no cost passed to the customers in the form of goods and services. It will also regulate the direct income transfer from Pakistan for buying the additional emission from the overseas. Main purpose of carbon tax is to reduce the carbon dioxide emission and with this save the severe climatic changes. However this is noted that only the carbon tax cannot save the climatic change and reduce the impact of negative externalities. The Pakistan government should also make other policies to reduce the impact of carbon emission in the environment.ReferencesBonnieux, F. and Rainelli, P.( 2002). The phylogenesis of technology and the increasing burning look ats of the people have created a dynamic environment of which the corporations may not be able to survive unless they simultaneously change their strategies with those global environmental and proficient changes. This report intends to provide a detailed discussion of the steering of change deep down Exxon Mobil Corporation (EMC) which is one of the worlds largest publicly traded international oil and gas company, providing energy that helps underpin growing economies and improve living standards around the world. My discussion mainly covers three perspectives. First, I explain the factors influencing the EMCs innovation and change strategy and then, I evaluate the importance of change to EMC and th e potential problems they face when EMC implementing the change. Finally, I evaluate the durability of EMCs strategy for managing change indoors the organization.OVERVIEW OF THE COMPANYExxon Mobil is the worlds largest publicly traded international oil and gas company. They hold an industry-leading inventory of global oil and gas resources. They are the worlds largest refiner and marketer of petroleum products. And their chemical company ranks among the worlds largest. However they are also a technology company, applying science and innovation to find better, safer and cleaner ways to deliver the energy the world needs.EMCs organizational structure is built on a concept of global businesses and is designed to allow Exxon Mobil to compete most effectively in the ever-changing and contend worldwide energy industry.EMC operates facilities or markets products in most of the worlds countries and explore for oil and natural gas on six continents. Exxon Mobil uses innovation and technol ogy to deliver energy to a growing world. They explore for, produce and sell crude oil, natural gas and petroleum products. They are committed to meeting the worlds growing demand for energy in an economically, environmentally and socially responsible manner. thitherof innovation and change strategy of EMC would be the most significant factor for the future(a) business expansion.FACTORS INFLUENCING trigger AND CHANGEFactors influencing the innovation and change differ according to the business scene of the organization. For example if a particular company is engaged in energy industry they may highly concern about environmental factors whatever the change they need. Because the environment has a major(ip) impact on all the product and services portfolio of EMC. Therefore it is more important to realize the context of business of which a particular corporation is engaged in before moving into a changing situation. In addition ripe technological advances, heathenish changes, st ructure of the corporation and regulatory requirements also can be identified as other factors to consider. However, there is also a need to understand the magnitude of challenge faced in trying to effect strategic change. To do this it is useful to consider the type of change required , the wider context in which the change is to occur and the specific to change that exists Following main factors can be considered as the influencing factors of change. The contextThere is no one right formula for management of change. The success of any attempt at managing change will be dependent on the wider context in which that change is taking place. For an example managing in a small, perhaps relatively new business where a motivated team are themselves driving force change, would be quite several(prenominal)(predicate) from trying to manage change in a major corporation, or perhaps a long established public sector organization, with establish routine, formal structures and perhaps great deal of resistance to change. The contexts are completely different and the approach to managing change therefore needs to be different.Balogan and Hope HaileyBalogan and Hope Hailey build on this point to highlight a number of important contextual features that need to be taken into account in designing change programs. See in a higher place exhibit. It reflects few examples of contextual features and their influence on strategic change programs. The time available for change could be dramatically different. When consider EMC for example there may be new enactments from the governments for usage of energy resources and exploring energy resources. Or there may be a new alter primaeval for fuel such as water. Then EMC need to have a rapid change. So there is no more time to waste. However there may be corporate decision and management plans for change. The management of EMC may have targeted at a kind of a change with the future forces. That can be taken a along time arena to change. No m atter how significant the change, it may be that there is a need for the preservation of certain aspects of the organization, in particular those that are to do with the competences which changes need to be based. For EMC it is necessary to concern the environmental factors whatever the change they expect to see. And also there may be some competent employees and professionals to be retained in the corporation.Change may be helped if there is a diversity of experience, views and opinions within an organization. EMC has expanded their operations in six continents. So the diversity is higher than any other organization. Therefore EMC has to consider different needs of the diversified stakeholders in all over the world. The previous experience of change is also important. Therefore capability also plays an important role in change management process. EMC has show their capability in managing change with the flow rate successful business portfolio.Capacity of the organization is also im portant to survive with the available resources. If a corporation has problems of deprivation of required resources the change will cause for a business failure. EMC has sufficient resources in all over the world. The menses stage of the business life cycle in EMC has paved the way for this. The readiness of EMC is good. The management has understood the need for change. They have established them into their budgets. EMC has announced the expected change and the innovative expectation in there news article of A view to 2030.The power to change in EMC also is in a good position. The board of director consists of 11 directors of which 10 of the 11 directors on board are independent. CEO has 4 vice presidents for the decision making. Therefore EMC should understand from where the resistance is effect i.e. from top level or lower level.EMC is currently engaged in various activities such as production, exploration, refining, fuel marketing, natural gas and power marketing etc. And also it is global firm operates in six contingents with billions of employees around the world. Therefore when concern the business context of EMC it is much complex in nature. In addition the industry also is highly volatile with the development of the technology would also be significant to EMC.CultureAs EMC operates in six continents this factor is highly an effect to the innovation and change strategy of EMC. EMC has to manage the stakeholders such as customers, suppliers and employees etc. in different contexts. Therefore there is a significant impact on the innovation and management strategy in order to create proper change management process. The cultural web provides a good basis of understand the effects of cultural changes to any organization. It is a representation of the taken for granted assumptions or paradigm of an organization and the physical manifestations of organizational culture. (See below exhibit.)Gerry Johnson Managing the strategic Change in a higher place all th e factors are the parts of the organization culture. When consider the EMC the culture is the most significant factor as it operates in globally. Therefore it is necessary to consider the cultural changes and their effects to the modern business arena for EMC. The cultural web also can be used as a way of understanding current organizational culture and desired future culture for EMC.EnvironmentThe environment is the most significant factor influence to any corporation to their innovation and change strategy. The concepts such as environment protection, sustainable development etc. has created the concerns of various regulators to control the organizations. The nature of the business portfolio of EMC is highly linked with the environment. They explore in environment, mine and extracting from environment and finally the consumption of energy also releases the polluted air to the environment. Therefore EMC has to be highly concern about the environmental factors when they determine t heir changing strategies.TechnologyThe technology is also a significant factor for the innovation and change strategy of EMC. The development of the modern technology has created a massive cost benefit opportunities to EMC. For example the mining machines can produce more efficiency than the laborers. In addition different technological developments have increasingly changed the research and development perspective of EMC.THE IMPORTANCE OF CHANGE TO EXXON MOBILIt is important to any organization to realize the need of change. The strategic change is considered at the initiation of the business portfolio and it should be evaluated by time to time current basis. Change can be in any context. Therefore it is important to understand why EMC needs the change.By nature EMC engaged in energy industry. The crude oil prices and the regulatory requirements of government in different countries and the authorities may change time to time. Those external forces of change can not be predicted an d also effect to whole organization. As EMC operates in diversified cultures around the world the effects of the stakeholders in different arenas are also may be demanded for change.Past experiences of change management in EMC has proved that the growth of the company depends on how quickly the company finds the innovative products. The technological advancement in modern world has changed the way of research and development. The technology has facilitated a lot for improving productivity in R D sections. Therefore EMC should be highly concern regarding the future advancements to the industry and there effect on EMC. There may be alternative substitutes in future and also there may be newer technologies for exploration, mining and other activities in the industry. Therefore change is very important to EMC.PROBLEMS OF IMPLEMENTING THE CHANGEHowever, even though the change is the most important thing to EMC there are several potential problems they have to be faced when they implemen t the change. The complexity of the geographical area is the major problem. In here EMC has to determine change strategy in order to line with the cultures, regulatory requirements and needs of the people in those countries. Some times there can be higher resistance from the above forces when we implement the change.Managing the risks from increases in global greenhouse gas emissions is an important concern for EMC, industry and governments around the world.Kurt Levins forcefield analysis provides an sign view of change problem that need to be tackled, by identifying forces for and against change. It helps to identify the driving forces and restraining forces to a particular change situation.EFFECTIVENESS OF MANAGING THE CHANGE WITHIN THE governanceThe effectiveness of managing the change is depending on how management, employees and finally the organization as a whole face to the change event. In here it is most important to understand the styles and roles of change in a particula r organization.Whoever is in the position of managing change needs to consider the style of management they adopt. According to the organizational context different styles are likely to be more or less appropriate.Education and communicationThis involves the explanation of the reasons for and means of strategic change. It might be appropriate if there is a problem in managing change based on misinformation or lack of information and if there is adequate time to invest in persuading people and give them the chance to assimilate the information. However there are problems here. Assuming that reasoned argument will overcome perhaps years of embedded assumptions about what really matters could be native specially if there is a lack of mutual trust and respect of between management and employees. Relying on processes of communication in a top down fashion may also be problematic. Change is likely to be more effective if those affected it are problematic in its development and planning.T his is what EMC is doing. They give the opportunity to management and employees to contribute to the change event. EMC has long term focus on their change strategy. They have taken several measures to create educated environment within the organization. EMC has continued investing heavily in math and science education in the United States. They supported initiatives that encourage students to take an active interest in careers in the math and science fields, encourage the professional development of highly qualified teachers and promote involvement of women and minorities in these subjects. Exxon Mobil has a long history of supporting and improving educational programs as an important business priority. There is a separate teachers academy for EMC to develop quality people. EMC communicates using news releases and gives the employees the opportunity to view them.CollaborationThis is the method of participating in the change process is the involvement of those who will be affected by strategic change in the change agenda. For example the identification of strategic issues, the strategic decision making process, the setting of priorities and the implementing the changing event is done by the lower level. In EMC those all the parties are the contributors of the change. Its like a routine aspect but finally top level management can achieve the expected change event. Therefore the collaboration has become a way of building readiness, and capability for change. EMC has effectively collaborated with the people in order to create current expanded business portfolio in all over the world.Intervention and concernIntervention is the coordination of and authority over processes of change by a change agent. Direction involves the use of personal managerial authority to establish a clear future strategy and how change will occur. It is essentially top down management of strategic change. It may be associated with a clear vision or strategic intent developed by someone seen as a leader in the organization. EMC has the motto of taking on the worlds toughest energy challenges. Therefore it can be understood the direction of the management for the strategic change.CoercionIn its most extreme form, a directive style becomes coercion involving the imposition of change or the issuing of edicts about change. This is the explicit use of power and may be necessary if EMC is facing a crisis or a conflict of change. However it should be noted that the management change in EMC by using above techniques may be effected by the factors such as capability, time and scope of change, power structure of EMC, capacity to change etc. When it comes to consider strategic change, there is too often an overemphasis on individuals at the top of an organization. It is useful to bet of change agency more broadly. Change agent is the individual or group that helps effect strategic change within an organization. When consider the top level management EMC has a number of change agen t within the organization with massive experience. There are highly qualified CEO and four vise presidents for the decision making. Rex w. Tellerson Chairman and Chief Executive Officer a native of Wichita Falls, Texas, Mr. Tillerson earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin before joining Exxon Company, U.S.A. in 1975 as a Production Engineer. Senior Vice President Mr. Mark Alberts born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and raised in Texas, Mr. Albers joined the company in 1979 and holds a bachelors degree in petroleum engineering from Texas AM University. Mr. Michel J Dolan Senior Vice President joined Mobil Oil Corporation in 1980 at the Paulsboro, New Jersey, and research laboratory. Over the next 13 years, he worked in a variety of engineering and managerial positions supporting Mobils worldwide refineries. Andrew P. Swiger is senior vice president of Exxon Mobil Corporation and a member of the corporations Management Committee. Throughout his career, Mr. Swiger has held a variety of technical and managerial positions in production, operations, engineering, planning and gas and power marketing. He joined the company in 1978 as an operations engineer in Morgan City, La., eventually progressing through a series of upstream staff and managerial assignments in Africa, Europe and North America. Donald D Humpheyars Senior Vice President and Treasurer a native of Tulsa, okay, Mr. Humphreys earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and Management from Oklahoma State University in 1971. He served in the U.S. Army from 1972-1974. He obtained an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania before joining Exxon Chemical Company in 1976. In 1986, subsequently several assignments in Houston, Baton Rouge and Baytown, he transferred to Exxon Corporation in New York as Senior Financial Advisor in the Controllers Department. In 1988, he moved to Exxon Company, International as Financial Reporting Man ager and later served as General Auditor. In 1990, Humphreys became Upstream Controller of Exxon Company, U.S.A.SUMMARYInnovation and change are the most important concepts discuss in modern dynamic business environment. The development of technology and the increasing burning needs of the people have created a dynamic environment of which the corporations may not be able to survive unless they simultaneously change their strategies with those global environmental and technological changes.Exxon Mobil is the worlds largest publicly traded international oil and gas company. Free College Essays - Lusting After Ladies at the A&P :: A&P Essays
Does lust lead to hardship and dressing table? In this paper (do you stand for this paper or John Updikes A&P?) Sammy has a sexual craving that causes him problems. His worship of a womans (careful with placement of possessive apostrophe) body causes him to misplace his values and circle around only on one value. This value is his lustful pleasure he gets when he sees three girls in their skimpy swimsuits. The pleasure he receives outweighs the consequence of emptiness he finally feels after he defends those girls and they do not respond to his pleasurable feelings. Updike in his short story A&P uses limning to illustrate that heroics based upon animalistic sexual appetite, which objectifies women, will lead to a hard and unsuccessful life. Updike uses the characterization of Sammy to illustrate that animalistic sexual appetite objectifies women. Sammy describes Queenie in a sexual manner when he described ( feat to avoid using the same word twice in a single sentence try a synonym--to find synonyms theres a cool thesaurus webcite by Merrium Webster at www.m-w.com also note that you have shifted from present to past tense here when constitution on art you normally stay in the present tense throughout) Queenies body and bathing suit. He says (missing the proper punctuation after says if you kept your Holt vade mecum you should be able to look up punctuation with quotations) With the straps pushed off, there was nothing between the top of the suit and the top of her head except just her, this exculpated bare plane of the top of her chest down from the shoulder bones like a dented sheet of metal tilted in the crystallize (13). (dont forget that MLA style demands that you put the page number of each quote in parentheses immediately after each quote) Sammy describes this as more than pretty. His sexual appetite is geared in not seeing these three girls as people but as objects. Sammy sees these women as icons to lust after just like in an eastern ort hodox church where they have icons of Jesus and Mary that you can have as objects to focus on and worship. Sammy in effect is using these women as objects to lust after and thus worship human sexuality. He sees these women as objects of pleasure thus fueling his animalistic sexual appetite. (I have a catch of comments on the preceding passage--which Ive colored blue.
